Hair Systems on Holiday: Sun, Sea and Long Days
The short answer: a holiday works without trouble with a hair system, swimming, sun and heat included. What to plan for: heat and sweat shorten the life of the bond, salt and chlorinated water are hard on the hair, and UV light can lighten the colour. With the right adhesive, some aftercare and a spare set in the suitcase, none of those is a problem.
Before you leave
Change it fresh. The best time for a change is one or two days before departure, not on the day itself. That way the bond sits well and you have a buffer if something needs adjusting.
Rethink the rhythm. In heat and with a lot of sweating a bond typically holds for less time than at home. For a two-week holiday you should plan on a change while you are away.
Check your adhesive. If you are heading for the beach or a hot region, Max Hold Sport is made for exactly those conditions. More on that under hair system adhesives compared.
The holiday set
| What | Why |
|---|---|
| Tapes or adhesive | for the change while you are there |
| Blue Minis | flat and small, they rescue a loose corner in two minutes |
| System remover | for taking it off |
| Skin cleaner | cleaning the scalp |
| Daily shampoo and conditioner | hotel shampoo is unsuitable |
| Leave-in care | important after salt and chlorinated water |
| Vented brush | essential, no substitute in a hotel bathroom |
Flying: liquids belong in hand luggage only in the permitted quantity, so remover and adhesive are better in the case. A blister of mini tapes in your hand luggage still makes sense in case the case arrives late.
Sea, pool and lake
Swimming is unproblematic, the system stays on your head. What matters is what you do afterwards:
- Rinse with fresh water straight away. Otherwise salt and chlorine stay in the hair and make it rough.
- A mild wash with a system-appropriate shampoo, not with the hotel product.
- Conditioner through the lengths, particularly important after salt water, leaving out the attachment area.
- Let it air dry, do not rub.
In detail: hair systems and swimming.
Sun and UV
System hair is not regenerated by the body, so UV light acts more strongly on it than on your own hair. It can lighten the colour slightly over weeks, particularly with dark systems.
What helps: a head covering in the midday sun, leave-in care with UV protection, and less time in direct sunlight with wet hair, because the effect is stronger when wet.
Honestly: it cannot be prevented entirely. Two weeks of beach holiday leave their traces. Anyone regularly out in the sun for long periods plans their change interval accordingly.
Heat and sweating
At 35 degrees the scalp works differently than in a Viennese autumn. Two things help noticeably:
- A breathable base: lace lets air circulate and is the most comfortable choice in summer. Comparison: skin, lace or mono.
- Sport adhesive: it holds even where normal bonds reach their limit.
A change in the hotel, is that possible?
Yes, with some preparation. What you need: good light, a mirror, a towel as a base and about an hour. The process is the same as at home, described step by step under changing a hair system yourself.
A tip from the studio: practise once at home before the holiday if you have always changed it in the studio until now. The first self-change in a hotel bathroom is the wrong moment for a premiere.
Common questions
Will my hair system hold at 35 degrees?
Yes, with a suitable adhesive. But reckon on shorter intervals than at home.
Can I dive and snorkel with it?
Yes. Rinse thoroughly with fresh water afterwards and use care products.
Does the sun discolour my system?
It can lighten it slightly. A head covering and UV care reduce the effect.
What do I do if a corner comes loose while I am away?
That is what the mini tapes are for: remove the old residue, degrease the skin, set the mini. Two minutes.
Should I take a second system with me?
If you have one, yes. The change is considerably quicker with it, and you have a reserve.
What belongs in your luggage
A hair system is no reason to skip anything on holiday, neither swimming nor sun nor long days. It only asks for some planning: change it fresh before departure, pack the right set, and use care consistently after salt water.
If a trip is coming up, talk to us beforehand. We will set the change appointment so that you can leave relaxed.
