Hair System Drawbacks: What Nobody Talks About
The short answer. Yes, a hair system has drawbacks. It needs a permanent routine, it costs money continuously, the human hair ages, and the first weeks are an adjustment. Anyone who knows and accepts this gets full hair straight away without surgery in return. Anyone who is not told this has been badly advised.
I sell hair systems and wear one myself, which is exactly why I am writing this article. The industry likes to play the drawbacks down. That backfires, because disappointed wearers are the worst advertising there is. Here is the complete list, from my own experience.
Drawback 1: the routine never ends
Every 7 days to 4 weeks it is reattached, and cared for in between. That is no drama, with practice a change on your own takes an hour at the weekend, but it is a lasting commitment. Anyone who already skips the dental floss should price that in honestly or book the studio service.
Drawback 2: it costs money continuously
Realistically 100 € to 170 € a month, everything included. That is predictable and transparent, but it is there, and it does not stop after a year. The honest counter-calculation against transplants and subscription models is in the cost guide.
Drawback 3: human hair without a scalp ages
The hair in the system no longer receives its own oil supply. Without replenishing care it becomes dry and straw-like, with care it holds its span, but no system lasts forever. Replacement every few months is part of the model.
Drawback 4: the first two weeks are strange
The feel is unfamiliar at first, the worry whether anyone can tell is real, and your first attachment on your own will not be perfect. That settles down, in my case after about two weeks, but nobody should tell you day one feels like your own hair.
Drawback 5: dependence on quality
A poor system or a sloppy first fitting shows. The horror pictures online almost always come from online self-purchases without fitting. The risk is real, and it is the reason the first fitting belongs in the studio.
And why I still wear one every day
Because on the other side of the scales sits full hair, today, at any stage of hair loss, without surgical risk, reversible at any time, while swimming and in the sauna. The drawbacks are habits and budget items, the benefit is looking in the mirror in the morning and recognising yourself. Nobody can make that judgement for you, but it should be made with all the facts.
Common questions
What is the biggest drawback from a wearer’s point of view?
The routine. Not hard, but unavoidable, like shaving, only less often.
Does the adhesive itch or damage the scalp?
With medical adhesive, a clean change rhythm and thorough cleaning, as a rule no. We check skin tolerance at the first fitting.
If you are still with me after this list, you are exactly the customer who will be happy with a system. Come to the free consultation, we will show you the drawbacks in person too, not just the before and after pictures.
