Toupee is the old word for something that has changed
Most people picture a toupee as something that sits on the head and can slip. That picture comes from a technology that is decades old.
Book a free consultationWhat a toupee was
A hairpiece placed on the head, held by clips or combs, taken off at night. It could shift, and in wind or when someone touched it, that showed.
What has changed
A modern system is bonded directly to the scalp with adhesive or tape. It stays on for days or weeks, through showering, sport and sleep. Nothing slips because nothing is merely resting there.
The base
Instead of a coarse mesh, systems now use films of 0.03 to 0.08 millimetres or fine lace. The scalp shows through, which is why the transition disappears.
The hair
100 percent human hair, knotted by hand, colour matched to your own hair including the grey portion.
Why the word survives
Because it is the word people know. What they picture when they hear it has little to do with what we fit.
What it costs today
A system costs 599 to 689 € and lasts three to six months. The bond is renewed as needed, depending on wear. Over a year, with four systems and care, that is around 200 to 290 € a month depending on how much you do yourself.
How it is fitted
Around 90 minutes for the first fitting. The system is cut to your head shape, the hairline drawn by hand, and the transition blended with your own hair. You walk out with a finished result, not with something to get used to.
